Holy Week and Easter 2022

The team at Newcastle Cathedral is delighted to host worship for Holy Week and Easter for the first time since the building’s historic transformation.

The following special services and events will take place in addition to the regular pattern of worship.

Palm Sunday, 10 AprilMorning Service with Liturgy of the Palms at 10am
Palm Sunday Evensong at 4pm
Monday 11 & Tuesday 12 AprilEucharist with Homily at 7:30pm
Wednesday 13 AprilTenebrae at 7:30pm
Maundy Thursday, 14 AprilChrism Mass at 11am (Bishop of Berwick will Preside and Preach)
Liturgy of the Last Supper at 7:30pm (Dean of Newcastle/Bishop of Berwick will Preach)
Good Friday, 15 AprilLiturgy of the Cross at 2pm (Bishop of Berwick will Officiate)
Saturday 16 AprilExperience Easter – drop-in Family-Friendly activities from 10am-12pm (Crafts, story and song to help explore the Story of Easter)
Easter Sunday, 17 AprilDawn Rooftop Service at 5:30am (Meet us from 5:15am at Newcastle Castle Keep)*

Eucharist of Easter Day at 10am (Bishop of Berwick will Preside and Preach)
Festal Evensong at 4pm
* Please note, this service will not be live-streamed. The rooftop of Newcastle Castle is a challenging climb that is unfortunately inaccessible to wheelchair users and people with limited mobility.

Experience Easter

On Saturday 16 April, families can hunt for hidden eggs, ‘eggsplore’ Easter themed play stations, and make ‘eggciting’ crafts! Stay for storytelling to learn about the Story of Easter. This event is free and open to all.
