Advent Attitudes

The Revd Canon Peter Dobson, Canon for Outreach and Discipleship, writes:

This Advent at Newcastle Cathedral, while we cannot gather in groups physically, we are using digital platforms to talk, reflect and pray.

Each day we are opening a window onto life’s gifts and challenges, with our Digital Advent Calendar being opened at 12 noon on the Cathedral’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

We have also created a space for people to gather on Zoom, to think about the attitudes that Advent calls us to explore: hope, peace, joy and love.

The same session will be offered at two different times (Tuesdays at 7.30pm and Wednesdays at 2pm), to suit different people and commitments. Our themes each week will be as follows:

  • Week 1: Holding on to Hope (Tuesday 1 December, 7.30pm & Wednesday 2 December, 2pm)
  • Week 2: Pursuing Peace (Tuesday 8 December, 7.30pm & Wednesday 9 December, 2pm)
  • Week 3: Journeying with Joy (Tuesday 15 December, 7.30pm & Wednesday 16 December, 2pm)
  • Week 4: Living in Love (Tuesday 22 December, 7.30pm & Wednesday 23 December, 2pm)

This year, more than most, these ‘attitudes’ feel so very important! Why not come and join us? Simply email peter.dobson@newcastlecathedral.org.uk to join the mailing list and the joining details will be emailed to you each week.

Each week will stand alone so if you haven’t been able to join one week, please don’t let that stop you coming another week. All are very welcome and we look forward to ‘seeing’ you!
