Advent & Christmas at the Cathedral

Join us this Advent & Christmas at Newcastle Cathedral for a range of services, musical performances and family-friendly events.

Unless stated, events and services are FREE to attend; however, donations are welcome. Pre-booking is advised for all bookable events, and transaction fees may apply for some guest concerts.

The Stars Come Out at Night

Christmas gift ideas

You can browse the selection of gifts available at the Cathedral on Tuesdays-Fridays 10am-4pm and Saturdays 10am-3:30pm (some exceptions may apply). Bespoke, festive souvenirs include Advent candles, Christmas cards and hand-crafted decorations. Most of these products are created by North East artists and all of them will make perfect stocking fillers.

Advent Procession of LightSunday 28 November 4pm A reflective service of candlelit readings and Advent carols. As our Choir processes from darkness to light, let powerful and beautiful music take you on a spiritual journey, exploring creation, care for creation, and God’s call to become a new creation in Christ.

Northumbria University Carol Service Wednesday 8 December 6pmThis annual event will include performances from the University and Cathedral Choirs, followed by a light festive drinks reception.

Patronal Festival

Saturday 11 December 11am

We will be joined by The Most Revd the Lord Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, for this service of Holy Communion. Join with us to celebrate the Cathedral’s Patron Saint, St Nicholas, with music from the Cathedral Choir.

Walking Nativity

Friday 17 December 5pm. Sets off from Newcastle Central Station

Join us for a procession to the Cathedral, following Mary and Joseph on their journey. The Rock Choir will entertain, and hot chocolate will be available. Bring a lantern if you can!

A spectacular gala concert of traditional Christmas favourites from both the Cathedral Choir and guest instrumentalists. Plus, an opportunity for the audience to sing along. An unforgettable evening designed to get you in the festive mood!
