A sparkling night of local celebrity appearances, music, song and a little bit of comedy is in store this festive season with the return of Christmas at the Cathedral.
This hugely popular show, which raises money for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and is proudly sponsored by Orbis Support, once again promises to surprise audiences with a line-up of celebrity performers whose identities are always kept under wraps until the big night.
Those who have bagged tickets in the past have watched performances by the likes of Stephen Tompkinson, Tim Healy, Melanie Hill, Denise Welch, Jimmy Nail and Maximo Park’s Paul Smith. Others have included Billy Mitchell, Chelsea Halfpenny, Charlie Hardwick, Rachel Unthank, Steffen Peddie and Viktoria Kay in typically fast-and-furious shows that switch between comedy highs and readings, some with a ‘football theme’ plus singalongs and traditional carols.
The Cathedral will be transformed, giving a ‘theatre-like’ feeling, with top-quality lighting, sound, and huge TV screens on either side of the staging. This will be the sixth year that the concert has raised money for The Foundation, launched by the late Sir Bobby Robson in 2008, which raises money to help detect and treat cancer.
