Mothers’ Union is a global Christian movement that has supported families and strengthened communities in the UK and around the world since 1876. With four million members active in 84 countries, it serves people of all faiths and backgrounds through practical action, prayer and advocacy.
The Diocese of Newcastle was among the first to adopt Mothers’ Union shortly after its own founding in 1882. Emily Wilberforce, wife of Newcastle’s first Bishop, served as the inaugural MU President. In more recent years, MU Presidents have also held the honorary role of Lay Canon at the Cathedral.
Members gather on the first Thursday of each month for Midday Prayers in St George’s Chapel at the Cathedral and are warmly invited to stay for the 12:30pm Eucharist. The group meets at Café 16 in the Cathedral refectory before or after the service for fellowship.
If you would like to join them or learn more, please contact the Revd Anne Marr, Chaplain to the Mothers’ Union in Newcastle Diocese, at chaplain@munewcastle.org.uk
