During the first few weeks of December, NE1 presents the annual 24 Doors Of Christmas, offering a unique opportunity to get behind the doors of Newcastle’s most exciting buildings. From theatres and galleries to council buildings and churches, each venue will either offer increased access or special events in anticipation of Christmas.
On Sunday 24 December, Newcastle Cathedral takes centre stage, with Christmas Eve offering a particularly special occasion to visit. You are invited to participate in festive services held at various times throughout the day or engage in fun family activities centred around St Nicholas, the original Santa Claus and the patron of the Cathedral.
The spiritual journey unfolds with Sung Eucharist at 10am featuring our Cathedral Choir. As evening descends, the atmosphere shifts to one of celebration with the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at 6pm; join us for an uplifting experience incorporating carols and sacred music sung by the Cathedral Choir. The culmination of this sacred day occurs with Candlelit Midnight Mass at 11:30pm, a service of carols and choral music marking the first Eucharist of Christmas Day and the birth of Jesus Christ.
If you choose to visit during these times, please be mindful and considerate of those around you. These services will also be live-streamed via our YouTube channel.
