New Tyneside Orchestra is excited to be making a return to Newcastle Cathedral for their Spring Concert 2022.
Conducted by Mark Edwards, the concert starts with the spirited symphonic poem Baba-Yaga by the Russian composer Anatoly Liadov. Based on Slavic folklore this depicts a supernatural being, who has taken the form of an old lady, living deep in the woods.
The programme continues with Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, which consist of 14 variations on an original theme. The subjects of these short musical portraits were Elgar’s friends and family.
Following an intermission, New Tyneside Orchestra will play Sergei Rachmaninov’s Symphony No. 2 in E Minor. Composed in 1906-1907 this symphony with its lush themes and soaring strings remains one of the composer’s best-known compositions.
Tickets are available from www.wegottickets.com or on the door and cost £10. For concessions the price is £8 and for students and unwaged £4.
