We invite you to join us for a Festal Eucharist as we commemorate the patron saint of our Cathedral, St Nicholas. We are honoured to be the sole English cathedral dedicated to this holy figure, who served as the Bishop of Myra in 4th-century Turkey and remains the inspiration for our beloved modern-day Santa Claus.
Our choir will be joined by members of the choir from Durham Cathedral, and the Dean of Durham, the Very Revd Dr Philip Plyming, will be preaching. This promises to be a wonderful and joyful occasion to celebrate the life of the Cathedral and to give thanks to God for our patron, St Nicholas.
The Church of England’s theme this year – Follow the Star: Join the Song – highlights how singing can help draw us closer to God and each other through the journey from Advent to Epiphany. If you are thinking of coming to church for the first time, or the first time in a long time, you will be very welcome!
All special services during Advent and Christmas are free to attend, with no booking required.
