The citywide ‘Shaun the Sheep on the Tyne’ art trail from St Oswald’s Hospice is bringing colour to Newcastle landmarks this summer – and we’re very excited to be a sponsor! The Cathedral’s chosen sculpture, ‘Sheep Ahoy!’, is by Cullercoats-based artist Joanne Wishart and includes the iconic Lantern Tower, which acted as a guiding light for ships sailing up the River Tyne for hundreds of years.
Read about the design of ‘Sheep Ahoy!’ and the rest of our flock.
Flock to the Cathedral to get creative with fun craft activities, dressing up costumes and colouring sheets. Explore the artistic creations of talented local schools and nurseries as you seek out the adorable ‘mini flock’. With a Cathedral map in hand, discover the marvellous animals hidden in our monuments and stunning stained-glass windows.
After your sheeptastic adventure, take advantage of an exclusive discount at Café 16, and treat yourself to some baa-rilliant food and drink.
Please note: The final day to see all sculptures will now be Sunday 24 September, a few days earlier than advertised. This is to give the artists some extra time to get their Shaun the Sheep looking perfect for St Oswald’s Hospice’s Farewell Weekend and Grand Finale Auction.
