Give As You FeelEmbark on a journey through time and discover the fascinating history, rich traditions and legends surrounding St Nicholas, the patron saint of Newcastle Cathedral.
St Nicholas was a 4th-century bishop who, through selfless acts of kindness and generosity, laid the foundations for Santa Claus as we know him today. In this guided tour, you will encounter the Cathedral’s numerous sculptures and stained-glass windows that depict stories associated with his life.
Learn how the image of Santa Claus has evolved over the centuries and why this cathedral is dedicated to St Nicholas.
There is no need to book in advance to attend this tour. However, if you plan to attend, please ‘Give As You Feel’ to maintain this beautiful building, continue our charitable work and keep the doors open for all.

Please note:
- This guided tour is designed for grown-ups and is recommended for ages 12+ only.
- Tickets are available on the day on an anonymous ‘Give as you Feel’ basis (£5 suggested).
- The tour is fully wheelchair accessible, with the exception of a small area in St. George’s Chapel. The tour guide can easily modify the tour to include this chapel at ground level.
- The tour starts at the medieval font and lasts approximately 30 minutes.
