Embark on a journey through time and discover the fascinating history, rich traditions and legends surrounding St Nicholas, the patron saint of Newcastle Cathedral.

St Nicholas was a 4th-century bishop who laid the foundations for Santa Claus as we know him today through selfless acts of kindness and generosity. In this guided tour, you will encounter the Cathedral’s numerous sculptures and stained-glass windows that depict stories associated with his life.

Learn how the image of Santa Claus has evolved over the centuries and why this cathedral is dedicated to St Nicholas.

These tours are free to attend, with a suggested donation of £5. Your support helps us maintain the Cathedral, continue our charitable work, and keep the doors open for all.

Please note: Pre-booking is not essential, but spaces on the day are subject to availability.
