Reluctantly, we have had to postpone this event, meaning it will unfortunately not be taking place on Monday 25 October 2021.
We are very keen to reschedule this to another date next year. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope that you can join us for a discussion with Jamie and Margaret in 2022.
Newcastle Cathedral is delighted to host a frank and affirming ‘On the Sofa’ conversation featuring the inspirational figures behind the hit West-End musical and now Amazon Prime feature film adaptation, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, and BBC Three documentary, Jamie: Drag Queen at 16.
Hear in Jamie and Margaret’s own words, his journey of self-discovery, acceptance, celebration and perseverance in the face of prejudice, as well as the incredible heart-warming story of unquestioning love between Margaret – Jamie’s mother and rock – and her son.
The conversation, compered by The Revd Canon Clare MacLaren, will run for 45 minutes with a brief group photo opportunity with Jamie and Margaret at the end.
There will also be an opportunity for audience members to submit their own questions to Jamie and Margaret prior to the event. Please do so via the Eventbrite booking process.
The event is suitable for 12-year-olds and above. Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Tickets are pre-bookable by Eventbrite only. We regret there will be no admission on the door. Seating location at the event is on a first-come-first-served basis.
We’re pleased to host this event on a Pay-As-You-Feel basis (with a mandatory fee of £1 to attend). We would be very grateful if you are able to donate more; a minimum donation of £5 is recommended as a guide.
All proceeds from the event will be split equally between Jamie and Margaret’s nominated charity: Wear Valley Women’s Aid – a support service for women and children who have been subjected to domestic abuse, and Newcastle Cathedral.

The ‘On the Sofa’ conversation coincides with the smash-hit musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie running from Monday 25 to Saturday 30 October 2021 at Newcastle Theatre Royal. The performance features West End star Layton Williams, EastEnders’ much-loved Shane Richie as Hugo/Loco Chanelle and TV favourite Shobna Gulati as Ray, reprising their roles from the critically acclaimed West End production.
