The Coat of Hopes, a patchwork pilgrim coat on an ongoing journey across Britain, will be on display at Newcastle Cathedral from Tuesday 14 until Thursday 30 November 2023.
Originally crafted for a pilgrimage that extended from the southern coast of England to the gates of COP 26, the UN climate summit in Glasgow during autumn 2021, the coat’s visit to Newcastle will coincide with the commencement of COP 28 in Dubai (which takes place from 30 November until 12 December 2023).
This remarkable coat has been created, worn, and walked in by countless individuals during and after its initial pilgrimage. It is composed of pieces of blanket into which people have woven their grief, memories, prayers, and aspirations for the place they call home.
You can find out more and try on the coat at a ‘Coat of Hopes Show and Tell’ on Sunday 26 November, between 11:30am and 12:15pm (after the Sung Eucharist service).
