You are invited to pause, to step away from the rush and chatter of everyday life and enter the gentle, still space of the labyrinth.
The labyrinth is an ancient pattern found in many cultures around the world, dating as far back as 5000 years, with designs often based on spirals and circles mirrored in nature. Labyrinths are currently being used worldwide as a way to quiet the mind, recover a balance in life, and encourage meditation, insight, self-reflection and stress reduction.
Labyrinths differ from mazes though the two are often confused. A labyrinth is a spiral walking course having a single, winding, unobstructed path from the outside to the centre and back. Unlike a maze which can be tricky and disorienting, a labyrinth calms the mind and relaxes the body.
The labyrinth may be seen to represent ‘the walk’ that we take through life; many twists and turns but no dead-ends. Walking the labyrinth is a journey where you might release tensions, concerns or distractions on the way in, be open to receiving insights and inspiration at the centre and return uplifted, blessed and renewed.
Labyrinths are open to all people as a non-denominational or secular, cross-cultural, blueprint for well-being. They can be found in medical centres, parks, churches, schools, prisons, memorial parks, spas, cathedrals and retreat centres as well as in people’s backyards and gardens.
Dr Jackie Drew, a Veriditas-trained labyrinth facilitator, has been introducing the labyrinth to diverse individuals and communities for over 12 years. In this free event, Jackie will offer the opportunity to walk the labyrinth, using a flat canvas labyrinth and hand-held labyrinths.
To find out more, and to walk the labyrinth, drop by between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
No experience is needed and there’s no need to book in advance.
