NEWCASTLE CATHEDRAL
A BEACON OF LIGHT
Final Flourishes
August 2021
In this video, our Common Ground in Sacred Space Project Manager Lindy Gilliland chronicles some of the ‘finishing touches’ being made before the Cathedral opens its doors this Thursday, 12 August.
The dream of developing and transforming Newcastle Cathedral into a wonderful, accessible visitor attraction, capable of hosting large-scale business and cultural events, whilst at the same time preserving and celebrating its ancient religious roots has taken many years, but this week, it finally becomes reality.
In this video, you can see:
- New seasonal planting and outdoor furniture being added to the East Terrace, to complete landscape architect HarrisonStevens’ designs.
- Our conservation volunteers giving a final clean and good dust to monuments that have been boxed in and protected for over a year.
- The protective cover being removed from our intricately carved 15th-century wooden font canopy.
- Final touches being made to our digital interpretation.
And much more!
You can see all these changes for yourself when the Cathedral opens its doors to the visiting public on Thursday 12 August (then open daily, 9am-5pm).
Don’t forget to check out our ‘What’s On’ calendar to see our brand-new programme of events, activities and worship services. We hope to see you soon!
