Become a friend

By prayer, work and financial support The Friends help to sustain the life and work of Newcastle Cathedral, to maintain the heritage of the building and enhance and beautify the fabric of this sacred place.

The Friends enjoy the fellowship of a shared enthusiasm for the witness to the presence of God in our midst, and of the special place of this Cathedral Church.

The Friends receive newsletters which outline the Cathedral’s recent and proposed developments. The Friends’ AGM, each Spring, is enlivened with guest speakers from many different and exciting avenues of life.

Outings and events provide further opportunities to meet and share mutual interests. Our service, subscriptions and gifts benefit the work of God in this holy place.

In the past The Friends have contributed to the repairs to stonework, the Cathedral organ, restoration of silver, to sound systems, pianos, the design and creation of new copes for the Dean and Residentiary Canons, the redevelopment of the Thomlinson Room and much more. Many are also actively involved as volunteers in the Cathedral’s everyday activities.

Membership of The Friends of St Nicholas is open to all.

Annual Membership is £10 per person per year or £20 for a group per year.

Life Membership is one payment of £250 per person.
