Mother’s Day Runaways

The Revd Canon Clare MacLaren, Canon for Music and Liturgy, writes:

At 6pm on Saturday 13 March, the ministry team of Newcastle Cathedral will be offering a quiet, reflective service on our YouTube channel, designed to be “a safe space for those who find Mothering Sunday difficult”.

The ‘Mother’s Day Runaways’ concept was devised in 2017, by Sonya Doragh, and Lizzie Lowrie – two friends from Liverpool who, for their own reasons found attending church on Mothering Sunday both conflicting and painful.

The service reflects on the biblical story of ‘Eve: Mother of all, mothered by none’.

Whatever the reason you might find Mothering Sunday painful, this service has been designed with you in mind.

Suggestions for places where you might find further support should you want it will be made available at the end of the service.

Please do join us – on Saturday evening, or any time afterwards, via our YouTube channel.
