Choral Scholarships
Duration of Scholarship: 1 year, sometimes extendable for a further year by mutual agreement
Bursary: £3,509.95
The Choral Scholars play a fundamental role in the Cathedral’s mission and ministry; as such, they are a valued part of the team of those that contributes to worship at Newcastle Cathedral.
Most of our scholars combine the role with university study at the University of Newcastle, Northumbria University, or the University of Durham (undergraduate or postgraduate). It is expected that some candidates will be reading a degree in Music, but the scholarship opportunity is open to those studying any academic subject. Applications from potential Choral Scholar candidates planning a ‘gap year’ will also be considered, but it should be stressed that no Choral Scholar accommodation is available at the present time.
Hours of Commitment during Cathedral Choir term time for the 24/25 Choral Scholars will be reviewed and confirmed in early June. Typically, scholars should expect to sing for two services on a Sunday, with an additional average of two or three Evensongs per week on weekdays/Saturdays.
For further information about the Choral Scholarship, please email Tim Cranfield (tim.cranfield@newcastlecathedral.org.uk) to schedule a telephone appointment.
