Emily Wilberforce\, wife of Newcastle’s first Bishop\, became the inaugural MU President. In more recent years\, MU Presidents in the diocese have also held the honorary role of Lay Canon at the Cathedral. \nMembers gather on the first Thursday of each month for Midday Prayers in St George’s Chapel at the Cathedral and are warmly invited to stay for the 12:30pm Eucharist. DESCRIPTION:Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Newcastle warmly invites you to join us as we celebrate Mothers’ Union’s 150th anniversary year. \nWith four million members across 84 countries\, Mothers’ Union supports people of all faiths and backgrounds through practical action\, prayer and advocacy. Established in 1885\, the Newcastle Diocese branch continues to strengthen families and communities through faith-filled outreach and service. \nThe celebration service will include prayers\, readings\, local music\, and art.
