SUMMARY:Poster Art and the Power of Hope: 80 Years of Christian Aid Posters (Exhibition)
DESCRIPTION:Founded 80 years ago by British and Irish churches\, Christian Aid has long been a voice for justice and compassion. This powerful exhibition traces eight decades of campaign posters and imagery\, illustrating the organisation’s global impact. \nNewcastle Cathedral is proud to be the first venue to host this inspiring display\, which highlights how Christian Aid has used design\, photography and slogans to communicate a call to justice. \nDiscover how poster art reflects shifting design trends\, historical change and the evolving role of international charities. \nTimed to coincide with Christian Aid Week (11-17 May 2025) and encompassing Holy Week and Easter\, this exhibition showcases how Christian Aid works in partnership with communities of all faiths and none to ensure that all people can live a full life free from poverty.

SUMMARY:Home and Howay – Letters and Post in the 18th-Century North East (Exhibition)
DESCRIPTION:Please note: The launch of this exhibition has been postponed slightly from the originally advertised date of Monday 7 April. \nBefore emails and phones\, letters were one of the only ways to stay in touch over long distances. Here at Newcastle Cathedral\, we remember those who travelled the world\, as seen in memorials around us. But how did people stay connected? \nThis exhibition explores the rise of the postal system in the 18th century\, a time when letter writing flourished. For Newcastle and the North East\, letters carried voices across the sea\, coal mines and trade routes. They reveal personal stories\, business dealings and everyday life. \nThis exhibition has been created by Abby Hammond as part of her PhD\, in collaboration with Newcastle Cathedral\, exploring the lives of women buried at Newcastle Cathedral between 1640 and 1815.

SUMMARY:Why is the Church Hurting? Exploring Moral Injury in the Church (Conference)
DESCRIPTION:The term ‘moral injury’ refers to the enduring negative emotions\, such as guilt\, shame\, anger and disgust\, experienced as a result of the violation or suppression of one’s deeply held moral code. We might acquire a moral injury when someone in a position of trust and authority betrays our shared moral values or when we ourselves act in a way that violates or fails to live up to those values. \nThis one-day conference is informed and supported by a group of survivors\, enabled by the Lead Officer of our Diocesan Chaplaincy to Survivors. It will explore what moral injury is and how it can be caused by the institution of the Church and its practices\, introduce reparative work already underway in Newcastle\, and include some guided conversation about how these injuries can be addressed in and by the Church. The day will include presentations by survivors of church-related abuse and experts in the field. \nFor more information about the event\, please contact Dr Maggi Creese (Chaplaincy to Survivors) at m.creese@newcastle.anglican.org.
