DESCRIPTION:Join us for a service marking the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant\, a public declaration of the Cathedral and Diocese of Newcastle’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. \nThis service takes place on the eve of the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain – a time to honour the dedication and sacrifice of all who serve or have served\, including regular and reservist personnel\, veterans\, and military families. \nThe Armed Forces Covenant is an enduring promise between the people of the United Kingdom\, His Majesty’s Government\, and all members of the Armed Forces – past and present – along with their families. It recognises their invaluable contribution to our communities\, our institutions\, and our nation. \nThe Cathedral will close to visitors at approximately 1:30pm to prepare for the service. The doors will reopen for attendees at 2:30pm. DESCRIPTION:Revival Newcastle is a network of passionate people\, services and organisations working together to support anyone affected by drug\, alcohol\, or other addiction issues. \nIn recent months\, Revival has invited creative submissions from partners and the people they work with\, asking the question: “What does recovery mean to you?” \nThe responses – powerful\, personal and inspiring – have been brought together in a special exhibition at Newcastle Cathedral\, running from 10–30 September 2025 as part of Recovery Month. \nIn recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day and the impact addiction and substance misuse can have on our communities\, this event offers the chance to celebrate recovery and the hope and connection our communities can provide. Through art\, writing\, and treasured objects\, people have shared their journeys of recovery – each piece a testament to courage\, creativity and hope. \nThese works remind us that recovery is not only possible\, but is happening all around us\, every day\, in many different ways. They speak of resilience\, transformation\, and the strength that flourishes within community. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Diocese of Newcastle’s Continuing Ministerial Formation (CMF) group\, this monthly seminar series takes place on the first Thursday of each month\, exploring the rich and surprising intersections between theology and other disciplines. \nJoin Lee Taylor on Thursday 4 September for ‘Theology& Joyful Fun’\, gathering at 3:30pm for a 4pm start. \nFr Lee is the new Vicar of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and also works for OneBodyOneFaith as Chaplain to Rhythm and Member Care. In both these roles\, he strives to encourage people to encounter God’s lavish hospitality and joy. \nHe is in a Civil Partnership with Charlie\, and they are owned by two cats and a 1976 VW camper van. \nThis event is FREE to attend – all are welcome!\nBooking essential. DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 7 August\, the Diocese of Newcastle Mothers’ Union will gather for their monthly Midday Prayers. Following this\, attendees are invited to the Cathedral’s Eucharist at 12:30pm to acknowledge Mary Sumner Day\, which occurs on 9 August. \nMary Sumner was the founder of the Mothers’ Union in 1876\, dedicated to supporting families and giving a voice to disadvantaged women. \nThe service will also welcome new members and include the blessing of new kneelers lovingly stitched by members for the Cathedral’s Chapel of the Resurrection. \nThe MU’s Cathedral trail leaflets will be available afterwards\, as will refreshments in Café 16. \nTo find out more\, please visit the Diocese of Newcastle Mothers Union website.
