SUMMARY:Harvest Festival with Newcastle Cathedral's Young Singers
DESCRIPTION:Newcastle Cathedral’s Harvest Festival will be a joyful celebration of the season\, filled with music\, prayer\, and reflection on the gifts of the harvest. The service will feature uplifting music from some of the Cathedral Choir’s youngest voices. \nWe will also give thanks for the generosity of our Cathedral community\, whose Harvest donations this year will help to support West End Refugee Service (WERS). The Harvest Festival will also showcase artwork created by members of the congregation. \nClick here to learn about how you can contribute to the Harvest Collection for WERS. \n \nWe’ll also showcase artwork by asylum seeker and refugee members of our Bible study group\, inspired by the Cathedral and the natural world. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a short prayer service\, followed by refreshments and the opportunity to explore our new exhibition\, ‘Jagged Edges’\, and meet the artists. \nIn ‘Jagged Edges’\, the artists have drawn on their own experiences of abuse and moral injury in a church context to make meaningful connections between the familiar story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection\, and the experiences of those harmed in Christian churches. These survivors are inviting us to look at Jesus’ trauma and see his story as one of abuse and of God’s love for and solidarity with those who have been abused. DESCRIPTION:From Sunday 28 September to Saturday 18 October\, Newcastle Cathedral will host a donation point in support of West End Refugee Service (WERS). \nDuring Cathedral opening hours\, visitors can drop off donations at the designated point\, located beside the retail space and next to St Margaret’s Chapel. \nSince 1999\, WERS has been working at the forefront of tackling poverty\, isolation\, and prejudice in Newcastle and the North East of England – meeting urgent needs while advocating for lasting\, systemic change. Their services empower individuals\, strengthen resilience and equip people with the tools they need to build a brighter future. \nTo make the greatest impact\, WERS has shared a list of the most urgently needed items for their food parcels. DESCRIPTION:On the fourth Monday of every month\, local members of the Third Order of the Society of St Francis pray silently for peace in the Chapel of the Ascension. They then participate in the 12:30pm Eucharist and invite all who are there to have lunch together afterwards at Café 16 in the Cathedral refectory. \nEveryone is welcome to join both the prayers and the Eucharist. \nAbout the Third Order of the Society of St Francis: \nThe Third Order is a worldwide Anglican Franciscan religious order for people over the age of 18\, including both lay and ordained members\, married and single individuals\, and those of various ages and ethnic backgrounds. Members commit themselves to leading their lives according to a Rule of Life while living in their own homes\, working in the community and caring for their families. There are approximately 3\,000 members worldwide\, with 1\,700 based in Europe. \nThe aims of the Order are to make our Lord Jesus Christ known and loved everywhere\, to spread the spirit of love and harmony\, and to live simply. \nThe Order welcomes enquiries from people who are interested in joining. DESCRIPTION:  \nBishop Helen-Ann will commission two new LGBTQI+ volunteer chaplains\, Izzy McDonald-Booth and David Casati\, at a special Evensong on Sunday 21 September. Izzy and David will work in the Diocese of Newcastle’s LGBTQI+ Chaplaincy alongside Lead Chaplain\, Revd Emma Duff. \nCommenting on the appointment\, David said\, “It is important for me to be visible as a queer person in the Church and to encourage the gifts and ministries of LGBTQI+ people in our Diocese. I envisage a flexible ministry\, made of discernment\, listening\, presence\, teamwork and vision.” \nIzzy commented: “The chaplaincy is here to make sure the Church lives out its promise to be a place for all people through advocacy and pastoral support wherever it’s needed. SUMMARY:Pop Up Choir: The Bridge Singers 10th Anniversary Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join The Bridge Singers\, a community choir of around 50 voices directed by Cheryl Camm\, for a pop-up concert in the Cathedral Nave. Founded in July 2015 and based in the villages of Felton and West Thirston in Northumberland\, the choir performs music in a wide variety of styles – from classical and folk to popular – and strives to include a balance of these in every concert. \nThe 2025–2026 season marks the choir’s 10th anniversary\, with a series of special events planned for both singers and audiences. Their performance at Newcastle Cathedral is the first of these celebrations. Throughout the anniversary year\, the choir will revisit favourite pieces from the 300 works they have sung since their formation. Earlier this year\, members voted on their top choices\, ranging from Rachmaninov to Queen\, some of which appear in today’s programme. \nThis concert is FREE to attend\, though donations are warmly welcomed to help the Cathedral continue supporting and hosting community groups and choirs. \nClick here to donate to support the Cathedral’s work.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a service marking the signing of the Armed Forces Covenant\, a public declaration of the Cathedral and Diocese of Newcastle’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. \nThis service takes place on the eve of the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain – a time to honour the dedication and sacrifice of all who serve or have served\, including regular and reservist personnel\, veterans\, and military families. \nThe Armed Forces Covenant is an enduring promise between the people of the United Kingdom\, His Majesty’s Government\, and all members of the Armed Forces – past and present – along with their families. It recognises their invaluable contribution to our communities\, our institutions\, and our nation. \nThe Cathedral will close to visitors at approximately 1:30pm to prepare for the service. The doors will reopen for attendees at 2:30pm. And are the legends true that a pirate is buried in the Cathedral grounds? \nDelve into these mysteries on this fun-filled mini-tour\, which lasts approximately 25-30 minutes. \nFREE to attend – Suggested donation £5 per adult / £3 per child (under 16). Your generosity helps us care for this historic building\, support our community work\, and keep the Cathedral open for everyone. \nRecommended for ages 6+. To help us tailor the experience\, please let us know the ages of any children in your group when booking. DESCRIPTION:Revival Newcastle is a network of passionate people\, services and organisations working together to support anyone affected by drug\, alcohol\, or other addiction issues. \nIn recent months\, Revival has invited creative submissions from partners and the people they work with\, asking the question: “What does recovery mean to you?” \nThe responses – powerful\, personal and inspiring – have been brought together in a special exhibition at Newcastle Cathedral\, running from 10–30 September 2025 as part of Recovery Month. \nIn recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day and the impact addiction and substance misuse can have on our communities\, this event offers the chance to celebrate recovery and the hope and connection our communities can provide. Through art\, writing\, and treasured objects\, people have shared their journeys of recovery – each piece a testament to courage\, creativity and hope. \nThese works remind us that recovery is not only possible\, but is happening all around us\, every day\, in many different ways. They speak of resilience\, transformation\, and the strength that flourishes within community. By amplifying these voices\, the exhibition seeks to challenge stigma and offer encouragement to all who are beginning or continuing their own recovery journey. \nThis exhibition is supported by the Cathedral Lantern Project\, which exists to walk and work alongside people experiencing difficult circumstances in life. \nThe Cathedral Lantern Project

DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Diocese of Newcastle’s Continuing Ministerial Formation (CMF) group\, this monthly seminar series takes place on the first Thursday of each month\, exploring the rich and surprising intersections between theology and other disciplines. \nJoin Lee Taylor on Thursday 4 September for ‘Theology& Joyful Fun’\, gathering at 3:30pm for a 4pm start. \nFr Lee is the new Vicar of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and also works for OneBodyOneFaith as Chaplain to Rhythm and Member Care. In both these roles\, he strives to encourage people to encounter God’s lavish hospitality and joy. \nHe is in a Civil Partnership with Charlie\, and they are owned by two cats and a 1976 VW camper van. \nThis event is FREE to attend – all are welcome!\nBooking essential.
