SUMMARY:Franciscan Prayers for World Peace
DESCRIPTION:On the fourth Monday of every month\, local members of the Third Order of the Society of St Francis pray silently for peace in the Chapel of the Ascension. They then participate in the 12:30pm Eucharist and invite all who are there to have lunch together afterwards at Café 16 in the Cathedral refectory. \nEveryone is welcome to join both the prayers and the Eucharist. \nAbout the Third Order of the Society of St Francis: \nThe Third Order is a worldwide Anglican Franciscan religious order for people over the age of 18\, including both lay and ordained members\, married and single individuals\, and those of various ages and ethnic backgrounds. Members commit themselves to leading their lives according to a Rule of Life while living in their own homes\, working in the community and caring for their families. There are approximately 3\,000 members worldwide\, with 1\,700 based in Europe. \nThe aims of the Order are to make our Lord Jesus Christ known and loved everywhere\, to spread the spirit of love and harmony\, and to live simply. \nThe Order welcomes enquiries from people who are interested in joining. Please contact janepenn11@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Trafalgar Day Service in Remembrance of Admiral Lord Collingwood
DESCRIPTION:Join us to mark the 220th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar at this short annual service\, hosted by the Lord Mayor’s Office. \nThe service is attended by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle and other local dignitaries\, as well as Navy personnel\, who will lay wreaths at the Cathedral’s memorial to Admiral Lord Collingwood. Members of the Collingwood Society\, dedicated to preserving his legacy\, will also be present. \nThe service is open to the public\, welcoming all who wish to commemorate the life and achievements of Admiral Collingwood. Many attendees then continue to the Collingwood Monument in Tynemouth for the annual ‘Toast to the Admiral’. \nBorn near St Nicholas’ Church (now Newcastle Cathedral)\, Vice Admiral Collingwood took command after Nelson fell at Trafalgar in 1805\, leading the British fleet to victory. He was baptised and later married at the Cathedral. \nWatch the video below\, recently produced by the Royal Grammar School\, Newcastle\, celebrating Collingwood — one of RGS’s most distinguished alumni. \n \nClick here to visit RGS’s 500th Anniversary website. \nYou may also be interested in… \n‘Local Heroes Remembered’ Tours

SUMMARY:Harvest Festival with Newcastle Cathedral's Young Singers
DESCRIPTION:Newcastle Cathedral’s Harvest Festival will be a joyful celebration of the season\, filled with music\, prayer\, and reflection on the gifts of the harvest. The service will feature uplifting music from some of the Cathedral Choir’s youngest voices. \nWe will also give thanks for the generosity of our Cathedral community\, whose Harvest donations this year will help to support West End Refugee Service (WERS). This has been created in collaboration with artist Rory Williams as part of a project supported by Newcastle City Council’s Arts Development Team. \nAll services are FREE to attend with no pre-booking required. \nThis service will also be live-streamed via our YouTube channel (see below). \n \nClick here to read and follow along with the Order of Service (PDF).

SUMMARY:'Jagged Edges' Exhibition Launch Event
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a short prayer service\, followed by refreshments and the opportunity to explore our new exhibition\, ‘Jagged Edges’\, and meet the artists. \nIn ‘Jagged Edges’\, the artists have drawn on their own experiences of abuse and moral injury in a church context to make meaningful connections between the familiar story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection\, and the experiences of those harmed in Christian churches. These survivors are inviting us to look at Jesus’ trauma and see his story as one of abuse and of God’s love for and solidarity with those who have been abused. They are also reaching out to the rest of the Church with an invitation to engage in the work of healing the broken relationships in Christian communities. \nThis is a free event with no pre-booking required. \nFor any enquiries\, please contact Maggi Creese at m.creese@newcastle.anglican.org \nClick here to learn about the Diocese of Newcastle’s Chaplaincy to Survivors. \nImage: ‘Crucify Him!’ by Sarah Troughton. \nWAITING LIST – Reflecting on your Relationship with Christ through the Medium of Linoprint

SUMMARY:Pop Up Choir: The Bridge Singers 10th Anniversary Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join The Bridge Singers\, a community choir of around 50 voices directed by Cheryl Camm\, for a pop-up concert in the Cathedral Nave. Founded in July 2015 and based in the villages of Felton and West Thirston in Northumberland\, the choir performs music in a wide variety of styles – from classical and folk to popular – and strives to include a balance of these in every concert. \nThe 2025–2026 season marks the choir’s 10th anniversary\, with a series of special events planned for both singers and audiences. Their performance at Newcastle Cathedral is the first of these celebrations. Throughout the anniversary year\, the choir will revisit favourite pieces from the 300 works they have sung since their formation. Earlier this year\, members voted on their top choices\, ranging from Rachmaninov to Queen\, some of which appear in today’s programme. \nThis concert is FREE to attend\, though donations are warmly welcomed to help the Cathedral continue supporting and hosting community groups and choirs. \nClick here to donate to support the Cathedral’s work.

SUMMARY:Sung Eucharist on Holy Cross Day
DESCRIPTION:Come and celebrate Holy Cross Day with our newly returned Cathedral Choir\, as they sing for their second week of term at Sung Eucharist. \nFor Christians\, the cross – once a brutal instrument of torture and execution – has been transformed into a sign of hope. It speaks not of defeat\, but of Christ’s life-giving sacrifice\, offering forgiveness\, redemption and the promise of eternal life. What was once a tree of death becomes for us the tree of life. \nAcross the Christian world\, this day is marked with joy and thanksgiving – quite different in tone from the solemnity of Good Friday – as we honour the holy cross and all it represents. \nThis service will also be live-streamed via our YouTube channel (see below). \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvAUUIjUaZs \n

SUMMARY:‘Your City\, Your Recovery’ – Recovery Month Exhibition Launch
DESCRIPTION:Revival Newcastle is a network of passionate people\, services and organisations working together to support anyone affected by drug\, alcohol\, or other addiction issues. \nIn recent months\, Revival has invited creative submissions from partners and the people they work with\, asking the question: “What does recovery mean to you?” \nThe responses – powerful\, personal and inspiring – have been brought together in a special exhibition at Newcastle Cathedral\, running from 10–30 September 2025 as part of Recovery Month. \nIn recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day and the impact addiction and substance misuse can have on our communities\, this event offers the chance to celebrate recovery and the hope and connection our communities can provide. You’ll also have the chance to meet the artists in person\, hear inspiring stories and get creative yourself. \nLight refreshments will be available during networking following the evening’s presentations. \nClick here to visit Revival Newcastle’s website.  \n\n\n\n\nIf you have any questions about this event\, please email info@revivalnewcastle.com
