SUMMARY:Pop Up Choir: The Bridge Singers 10th Anniversary Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join The Bridge Singers\, a community choir of around 50 voices directed by Cheryl Camm\, for a pop-up concert in the Cathedral Nave. Founded in July 2015 and based in the villages of Felton and West Thirston in Northumberland\, the choir performs music in a wide variety of styles – from classical and folk to popular – and strives to include a balance of these in every concert. \nThe 2025–2026 season marks the choir’s 10th anniversary\, with a series of special events planned for both singers and audiences. Their performance at Newcastle Cathedral is the first of these celebrations. Throughout the anniversary year\, the choir will revisit favourite pieces from the 300 works they have sung since their formation. Earlier this year\, members voted on their top choices\, ranging from Rachmaninov to Queen\, some of which appear in today’s programme. \nThis concert is FREE to attend\, though donations are warmly welcomed to help the Cathedral continue supporting and hosting community groups and choirs. \nClick here to donate to support the Cathedral’s work.

DESCRIPTION:Poet and Cellist Kenneth Wilson is undertaking a 2\,000-mile bicycle pilgrimage around all 42 English Anglican cathedrals\, performing a Meditation on the Seven Last Words of Jesus. \nNewcastle Cathedral is the first stop on this extraordinary journey\, falling during the Church’s observation of Easter\, culminating with the Feast of Pentecost in June. \nThe Meditation consists of JS Bach’s beautiful solo cello music\, interspersed with poems of reflection on Jesus’ last words from the cross. \nThe performance will last around 50 minutes. DESCRIPTION:Christmas at the Cathedral returns for its 11th year\, supporting The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation\, which raises money to help detect and treat cancer. \nThis sparkling night of local celebrity appearances\, music\, song and a little bit of comedy will once again surprise audiences with a line-up of celebrity performers whose identities are always kept under wraps until the big night. \nThose who have bagged tickets in the past have watched performances by the likes of Stephen Tompkinson\, Tim Healy\, Melanie Hill\, Denise Welch\, Jimmy Nail and Maximo Park’s Paul Smith. Others have included Billy Mitchell\, Chelsea Halfpenny\, Charlie Hardwick\, Rachel Unthank\, Steffen Peddie and Viktoria Kay in typically fast-and-furious shows that switch between comedy highs and readings\, some with a ‘football theme’ plus singalongs and traditional carols. \nThe Cathedral will once again be transformed\, with top-quality lighting\, sound\, and huge TV screens on either side of the staging. \nPlease note: \n\nTickets are available via the Theatre Royal Newcastle\, and queries related to ticketing should be directed to their box office.\nThis concert is hosted by an external organisation (The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation)\, and booking fees may apply.\nNot every seat has an uninterrupted view of the performance area. SUMMARY:Stories of Sanctuary: 'Our Home' - Newcastle Summer Concert
DESCRIPTION:Experience an unforgettable evening of original songs performed by the newly formed Newcastle Sanctuary Seekers Choir. The concert will showcase the powerful voices and stories of those seeking sanctuary or who have come to consider the Cathedral or the city of Newcastle as a place of sanctuary. \nDelivered in partnership with Citizen Songwriters and The Arts Society Tyneside\, the evening will also feature singer-songwriter Sean Cooney from Teesside folk trio The Young’uns. Sean recently collaborated with Cathedral’s Recovery Church group members to write ‘See Me’\, a song highlighting the stigma surrounding addiction\, which will be performed at the event. \nThe concert is part of a North East and Yorkshire tour celebrating this year’s Refugee Week theme\, ‘Our Home’\, and promises to be a moving and inspiring evening of incredible talent and heartfelt performances. \nTickets are available on a ‘Give as You Feel’ basis\, and all proceeds will support future community songwriting workshops at Newcastle Cathedral. \n— \n‘Someday’ by Bushee\nGroup member and talented singer-songwriter Bushee’s uplifting track ‘Someday’ will be among the songs performed on Thursday 18 July.
