SUMMARY:Access: Newcastle Cathedral (Exhibition)
DESCRIPTION:Speaking Up Together Beyond Boundaries is a self-advocacy group led by adults with learning disabilities and autistic people from the local area. \nThe group first connected with Newcastle Cathedral in 2022 through a community singing group. Since then\, they’ve become regular visitors\, meeting at Café 16 in the Cathedral Refectory and leading creative workshops. \nWith support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund\, they developed a project focused on creating accessible workshops and resources. \nThey are now working on further accessible resources for neurodiverse visitors as part of the Cathedral Lantern Project\, which aims to be a beacon for people navigating difficult circumstances in life. \nThis exhibition celebrates the group’s remarkable creativity\, showcasing a selection of inspiring artwork and resources they have created. \n\n\n\n\nThe Speaking Up Together group is offering FREE accessible heritage tours for groups in March and April 2025\, subject to availability. \nIf you’re interested in learning more\, please contact Joanne at Speaking Up Together.

SUMMARY:'A Story of Hope' Women's Art Display by Her Circle and Harriet Mee
DESCRIPTION:This year\, Mothering Sunday falls on 30 March — a time to reflect on and celebrate the many forms of motherhood. Throughout the month\, this exhibition will amplify the powerful voices of women who have experienced the challenges of complex motherhood and child removal. \nWritten\, visual and digital artwork provide a powerful reflection on these women’s recovery from child removal. Themes of trauma\, resilience and hope are explored. This includes art produced by the women of Her Circle and Harriet Mee. \nClick here to read our article about the story behind this powerful exhibition. \n The work debuted at an event on 6 March\, ahead of International Women’s Day. It has been funded and supported by Newcastle City Council Artist Residency Programme 24/25\, Newcastle City Learning (Funded by North East Combined Authority) and Digital Voice for Communities. \nPlease note: Due to their location\, the artworks may not always be visible or in their intended configuration\, particularly during services and large events. We recommend checking the Visitor Notices page on our website before planning your visit. \nVisitor notices \n \n

SUMMARY:Early Music @ Newcastle: Tudor-Style Organ Recital
DESCRIPTION:Newcastle University’s annual festival\, Early Music @ Newcastle\, offers an exciting programme of early music to audiences in the North East. \nJoin us for recitals on the Tudor-style Wetheringsett organ\, commemorating the tercentenary of Orlando Gibbons (pictured). \n\nMonday 3 March\, 1:05pm – David Smith\nMonday 17 March\, 1:05pm – Magnus Williamson\n\nAttendees will be encouraged to sit in the Quire\, which provides the best location for listening to the Wetheringsett Organ. \nThe Wetheringsett Organ\, currently on loan to Newcastle Cathedral from the Royal College of Organists\, was built by the organ builders Goetze & Gwynn in 2002. It is a speculative reconstruction of an English organ of around 1530\, based on the soundboard found in recent years at Wetheringsett in Suffolk. \nRecitals are free to attend\, with a retiring collection (suggested donation £5). Please consider donating\, either in person or online. \nClick here to make a regular or one-off donation. \nVisit our Organ Recitals page to view the music programme before each recital. \nFor details of the 2025 Early Music @ Newcastle festival\, please visit www.ncl.ac.uk/events/live-music/upcoming or download the programme from here 2025 Early Music @ Newcastle brochure.
