Our task is to communicate experience and ideas to others.”– Niels Bohr\, Nobel Prize Winner \nPride Month\, celebrated each June\, is a vibrant and inclusive time to honour the LGBTQI+ community – their history\, achievements\, and continued journey toward equality. \nAt Newcastle Cathedral\, we celebrate the significance of the Pride movement and its lasting impact on our shared cultural and social fabric. Our returning exhibition\, running throughout the summer and beyond Newcastle Pride weekend (Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 July\, presented by Northern Pride)\, explores the deep connection between language and identity. \nAs part of the Pride Fringe programme\, we’re thrilled to welcome Northern Proud Voices – the North East’s largest and longest-running LGBTQI+ community choir – for an uplifting evening of pop and rock favourites. \nJoin us on Friday 4 July at 7pm for a joyful celebration of music and community. SUMMARY:Franciscan Prayers for World Peace
DESCRIPTION:On the fourth Monday of every month\, local members of the Third Order of the Society of St Francis pray silently for peace in the Chapel of the Ascension. They then participate in the 12:30pm Eucharist and invite all who are there to have lunch together afterwards at Café 16 in the Cathedral refectory. \nEveryone is welcome to join both the prayers and the Eucharist. \nAbout the Third Order of the Society of St Francis: \nThe Third Order is a worldwide Anglican Franciscan religious order for people over the age of 18\, including both lay and ordained members\, married and single individuals\, and those of various ages and ethnic backgrounds. Members commit themselves to leading their lives according to a Rule of Life while living in their own homes\, working in the community and caring for their families. There are approximately 3\,000 members worldwide\, with 1\,700 based in Europe. \nThe aims of the Order are to make our Lord Jesus Christ known and loved everywhere\, to spread the spirit of love and harmony\, and to live simply. \nThe Order welcomes enquiries from people who are interested in joining. Uncover these mysteries and learn about the lives of those buried here. \nThis tour is fully accessible for wheelchair users and follows a circular route\, starting and ending at the statue of Queen Victoria in St Nicholas Square\, NE1 1PF. \nThese tours are FREE to attend\, with a suggested donation of £7 per person. Your support helps us maintain the Cathedral\, continue our charitable work\, and keep the doors open for all. \nPre-booking is not compulsory; however\, please be aware that each tour has limited spaces available.  \nPlease note: In the event of bad weather\, an indoor History Tour may be offered as an alternative\, subject to the availability of indoor space on the day.
