SUMMARY:Patronal Festival of St Nicholas with Installation of Non-Residentiary Canons
DESCRIPTION:On St Nicholas Day\, the choir of Durham Cathedral will join Newcastle Cathedral’s choir in a special celebration of our patron saint. Together\, we will honour St Nicholas’ enduring legacy of kindness and generosity\, reflecting on how these values can inspire the way we live and care for others today. \nUpdate – November 2025: \nThe Bishop of Newcastle\, the Right Reverend Dr Helen-Ann Hartley\, is pleased to announce the appointment of new Non-Residentiary Canons at Newcastle Cathedral who will be installed at the Patronal Festival. \n\nThe Revd Dr Hannah Cleugh\nThe Revd Nigel Taylor\nMr Chris Elder\nMrs Jacqueline Atkinson\n\nAll are welcome to attend this service. The preacher will be Right Reverend Dr Pete Wilcox\, Bishop of Sheffield since 2017\, having previously been Dean of Liverpool and served in parishes in Teesside and Tyneside. \nPlease RSVP via TicketSource to help staff and clergy plan seating and refreshments for all who attend.  \nRefreshments will be kindly provided by the Friends of St Nicholas\, an independent membership group and registered charity dedicated to supporting\, promoting and enhancing the Cathedral’s heritage. \nThis service will also be live-streamed via our YouTube channel (see below). \n \nClick here to read and follow along with the Order of Service (PDF). \nClick here for all events and special services at Newcastle Cathedral during Advent & Christmas 2025.
