Life events

Whether you are celebrating, commemorating a milestone, arranging a ceremony, or mourning a loss, we are here to help deliver a service that meets your specific requirements and wishes.

You can find comprehensive details about each of these services via the Diocese of Newcastle website.

When you are ready to make arrangements, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us via email at office@newcastlecathedral.org.uk.

Baptism

Baptism, also known as Christening, marks the moment when a baby, child, or adult embraces Christianity and is warmly welcomed as a new member of Christ’s church.

  • Babies and children are typically baptised in their local parish church. However, if you have a connection with the Cathedral, we would be thrilled to organise a baptism service for you.
  • Adults may embrace the Christian faith later in life, desiring to commit through baptism or simply wanting to mark a new beginning. If this resonates with you, we would be honoured to accompany you on this journey. There will usually be a short course of preparation for this, which will be discussed with you before a date is confirmed.

Weddings

Choosing to marry in a church can lead to a profoundly meaningful experience. Not only do you exchange vows before loved ones, but you also seek God’s blessing on your union – a blessing we believe will be honoured through all the challenges and joys that lie ahead!

To marry at Newcastle Cathedral, you or your partner must live in the Cathedral parish or, as is typical, commit to regular worship with us for six months and then apply to join our Electoral Roll (similar to a membership list). We are here to guide you through this process and provide any assistance you may need.

We would also be pleased to discuss the possibility of marrying you here if you have been previously married to someone else.

Blessings

If you prefer a blessing for your relationship – perhaps after a civil marriage ceremony or if you’ve married abroad and wish to celebrate closer to home – please reach out to us.

The Cathedral is now able to offer blessings for couples in same-sex relationships as part of one of our regular services. Unfortunately, we are not yet permitted to conduct a wedding for a same-sex couple. Please do contact us to discuss this further.

Funerals

Our Cathedral has a compassionate and skilled team of Clergy and Readers with extensive experience in guiding those who have lost loved ones through difficult times. They lead funerals and memorial services that serve as fitting tributes to those you have cherished and lost.

We provide three spaces for funerals, memorial services, or celebrations of life, accommodating small, medium, and large gatherings. Additionally, arrangements for a funeral tea or other refreshments can be made as needed.
