As we approach Harvest and prepare to welcome the full flock of 30 ‘Illuminated Sheep’ (22-24 Oct; find out more), the Cathedral will take care of a life-sized model sheep, with different groups taking turns to decorate it. Each week will reflect the group’s unique identity and role within the local community.
The 2024 Illuminated Sheep Art Trail encourages locals and visitors to #FindTheFlock across Hadrian Wall Country, including central Newcastle, where the path of the Wall once ran.
The following ‘community champions’ and organisations will take turns to decorate the sheep…
Come and see how each group expresses their creativity in a uniquely baa-rilliant way!

Illuminated Sheep was commissioned by Northumberland County Council and developed and managed by Queen’s Hall Arts and the Hexham Culture Network. It was part of the Cultural Programme of Hexham High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) and funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority, now the new North East Combined Authority.
