One of Europe’s most successful female-led early music and folk ensembles will captivate listeners with rich, ethereal harmonies and a variety of ancient and forgotten languages.
The renowned classical chart-topping choir was founded in 1996 by Katharine Blake and has garnered success with 10 albums, an Ivor Novella Award for ‘The Virgin Queen’, two Emmy nominations, and a Royal Television Society award for the ‘Victoria’ theme. Their haunting vocals have graced venues worldwide, from castles to Glastonbury, and they’ve performed with Jools Holland at the Royal Albert Hall and many more.
Founding member Katharine Blake’s choral compositions, drawing from medieval and romantic texts, reinvent traditional songs in ancient languages. The Baebes’ repertoire delves into mythological and philosophical themes, offering a captivating blend of ethereal beauty and talent.

As a charity which receives limited funding from the Church and Government, Newcastle Cathedral is grateful to organisations that hire the building for their events. Opening our doors to events such as Mediaeval Baebes’ 2025 Winter Tour helps us maintain this beautiful building, support our charitable work, and keep our doors open to all.
