Join us to mark the 220th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar at this short annual service, hosted by the Lord Mayor’s Office.
The service is attended by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle and other local dignitaries, as well as Navy personnel, who will lay wreaths at the Cathedral’s memorial to Admiral Lord Collingwood. Members of the Collingwood Society, dedicated to preserving his legacy, will also be present.
The service is open to the public, welcoming all who wish to commemorate the life and achievements of Admiral Collingwood. Many attendees then continue to the Collingwood Monument in Tynemouth for the annual ‘Toast to the Admiral’.
Born near St Nicholas’ Church (now Newcastle Cathedral), Vice Admiral Collingwood took command after Nelson fell at Trafalgar in 1805, leading the British fleet to victory. He was baptised and later married at the Cathedral.
