Installation of The Revd Canon Zoe Heming

Published September 2024

At Choral Evensong on Holy Cross Day, Saturday 14 September, the Cathedral community came together for a special Choral Evensong, marking the collation and installation of The Revd Zoe Heming as Residentiary Canon for Mission.

Zoe brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as Vicar of St Andrew’s Church in Aston and as the Enabling All Advisor (Disability Lead) for the Diocese of Lichfield.

She writes, “I am so looking forward to being part of the boldly inclusive mission and ministry of Newcastle Cathedral through the many ways their ‘Radical Welcome’ is offered to all people of this vibrant city and Diocese.”

Zoe’s installation marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for both the Cathedral and the Diocese. This comes shortly after other significant milestones, including the inauguration of our new Bishop, The Right Revd Dr Helen Ann Hartley (pictured above), in April 2023 and the installation of The Very Revd Lee Batson, Dean of Newcastle, last October. In July of this year, The Revd Ruth Hulse also joined as Canon for Worship & Congregational Life.

The Very Revd Lee Batson, Dean of Newcastle, was installed last October, with a new Canon for Worship & Congregational Life, The Revd Ruth Hulse, joining in July of this year.

At the time of Zoe’s appointment, the Dean said, “Zoe will bring to us insights on how to be a church that recognises and works to remove the barriers that prevent people from being able to belong to our community life as God desires them to be. This will enhance our commitment to be a place of radical welcome that empowers worth.”

If you missed the Collation and Installation of The Revd Zoe Heming, the service is available to watch on YouTube until the afternoon of Saturday, 21 September.
