At this exciting time in the musical life of Newcastle Cathedral, we are recruiting for the following roles that will begin in September 2026. These roles can be held separately, or a suitable candidate might consider combining two or more of them. Some additional administrative work in the department may also become available.

Schools Singing Programme Choral Director

This person will play a fundamental role in the planning, development and delivery of our music programmes, working with primary schools across Newcastle.

Permanent contract. £10,902 for 15 hours a week pro rata (£27,255 FTE)

Cathedral Organ Scholar

This scholarship is an opportunity for a gifted young musician considering a career in church music to gain valuable experience at Newcastle Cathedral and the nearby St Andrew’s Church.

1-year scholarship (may be extendable). Bursary £8,500

Tenor Lay Clerk

We are looking for a talented and experienced singer who wishes to make music at a high level in a professional singing role.

Permanent contract. Flexible hours with fees paid sessionally

Tenor & Bass Junior Lay Clerks

We are seeking two suitably talented and experienced singers who wish to gain experience in making music at a high level as part of a professional cathedral choir.

Fixed 1-year contract, with possibility to extend. Flexible hours with fees paid sessionally
