Thank you for your interest in Newcastle Cathedral. We offer the rewarding experience of working in a multi-faceted worship and heritage site and are currently recruiting for the following two vacancies:

Marketing Intern

This training opportunity is open to current undergraduate and postgraduate students and to recent graduates (within the last two years).

Contract: The internship is offered on a part-time fixed term contract for one year from 15 October 2021 and is subject to a three-month probationary period.
Salary:
£8.91 per hour (National Living Wage).
Hours:
The post is offered on a part-time basis, working 20 hours per week. The normal office hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday with half-hour unpaid lunch breaks. Due to the nature of the post, the successful applicant will be required on occasion to work outside office hours, including some evenings and weekends. Lieu time is available.

The role will assist the Cathedral’s Marketing and Communications Manager and the Digital Marketing Officer to optimise opportunities and provide support in all aspects of the delivery of marketing and communications relating to the Cathedral, aimed at engaging a broad range of target audiences including tourists, families, schools, pilgrims, and new volunteers.

Technical Verger

We are looking for a skilled Technical Verger to support our live-streaming and to be the key team member within the Vergers team to oversee all audio-visual systems. This is an exciting time to be joining Newcastle Cathedral with the recent completion of the Common Ground in Sacred Space project.

Contract: This post is offered on a three-year fixed-term contract on annualised hours. There is potential flexibility for the role to be carried out on a self-employed basis.
Salary: £15,226 (full time equivalent £19,032)
Hours: 1,560 hours per year (annualised contract)

The Vergers Team are responsible for ensuring the Cathedral looks its best at all times for worshippers, visitors and the general public, and provide a safe and welcoming environment. They are responsible for the preparation of services, leading processions, working the internal AV systems, preparation for events and regularly carrying out cleaning and maintenance of the Cathedral.

With the recent completion of a £6M capital project, this is an exciting time to be joining the Cathedral team. The Cathedral is open seven days a week and will have a very busy programme of worship, events and activities across the year. We are looking for a hard-working team-player who will be responsive to daily challenges, to take pride in what they do and to be focused on playing their part in making the Cathedral a success.

Directly reporting to the Head Verger, the Technical Verger will be the technical specialist for all the Cathedral’s new audio-visual and lighting systems, including live-streaming for services and events. As the lead advocate and practitioner, you will also take the lead in training colleagues and Cathedral-wide staff in basic use of the systems as well as be responsible for maintenance and upkeep.

You will have a high level of technical expertise to create high-quality experiences for services and events, as well as the ability to form excellent working relationships with the rest of the small team to provide flexible support. You will be expected to perform a range of other duties to support the team, including cleaning, setting out for events and providing a high standard of front-of-house support for all our visitors.

You will be extremely flexible about working hours, which will include Sunday worship during term time, key events in the liturgical calendar (Easter and Christmas) and regular evening working (including weekends) for commercial hire events.
