Please note: This event does not take place at Newcastle Cathedral.
As part of the Diocese of Newcastle’s Year of Sharing, our Dean, Lee, invites you to join him and others on a brand-new pilgrimage route, ‘St Aidan’s Way’.
Beginning at the ‘first cathedral’ on Holy Island and journeying to the ‘new cathedral’ here in Newcastle, this series of walks follows in the footsteps of St Aidan, with opportunities along the way for prayer, reflection, and conversation about his life and ministry as a peacemaker.
The pilgrimage is divided into eight legs. The first will take place on Saturday 7 March 2026, walking from Holy Island to Belford.
We will begin with a short 10am Eucharist at St Mary’s Church, Holy Island, where Bishop Helen-Ann will preside. You are warmly welcome to join us for the service, the walk, or both.
Meeting arrangements (due to tide times):
Please meet at 9.30am at St Mary’s Church, Belford, where you can leave your car. Lifts will be organised to Holy Island for the start of the walk.
Please bring snacks, water, lunch, suitable clothing, and a small towel. To help with travel arrangements, it would be very helpful to know numbers in advance.
To confirm your attendance or ask any questions, please contact Revd Sarah Hills at incumbentholyisland@gmail.com
