Schools Singing Programme

Newcastle Cathedral’s music programme begins in the classrooms of a large and growing number of primary schools as part of our commitment to changing the lives of children and young people. We recognise the positive impact that music education can have – creating opportunities for expression and creativity but also supporting intellectual, socio-emotional, language and motor development.

Part of something bigger

Commencing in the Academic Year 2023/24, our involvement as one of the select Anglican cathedrals engaged in the National Schools Singing Programme allows us to deliver tailored classroom singing sessions led by experienced Choral Directors. Schools benefit from curriculum-aligned sessions, staff CPD training, online resources, and performance opportunities at the Cathedral, fostering a sense of pride and community among participants.

A musical journey

For many children, this programme serves as their introduction to classical music, laying a solid foundation for future musical endeavours. Those with a passion for music can progress through the ChoriStarters Training Choir to become Choristers in Year 3, building on their skills and talents.

“The singing programme has been an absolutely wonderful enhancement to our music provision here in school. The sessions are high quality, expertly planned and seamlessly linked to national curriculum objectives.”

We are committed to offering an excellent musical education to those who would otherwise not benefit, empowering the next generation through the joy of singing.
